Imitrex Stroke

A common question amongst women suffering from migraines:  are there increased risks, after taking birth control and Imitrex, of stroke?

Unfortunately, the link between Imitrex, stroke and the Pill is a vague on at best.

Serious side effects on the heart can occur after taking Imitrex, stroke and heart attack included.  Though these side effects are uncommon, do not use this medication if you have a history of heart disease, angina (chest pain), blood circulation issues, ischemic bowel disease, serious or uncontrolled high blood pressure, or history of a heart attack or stroke.

Now this does not prove a higher risk between birth control and Imitrex.  Stroke and heart attack are actually shown in some women to be reduced by the Pill.

To further complicate matters, strokes have been known to be caused by migraines.  Birth control has been shown to have clear connections with an increase in migraine headaches.  And a popular migraine treatment is Imitrex.  Stroke causes, therefore, fall somewhere within that circular trap.

In addition, becoming pregnant means no more Imitrex, so you may need the Pill.  Imitrex can potentially pass into breast milk and harm the baby.

This may seem confusing, so the absolute best advice:  before using Imitrex, talk to your doctor.  Also, do not use this medication if you are allergic to Imitrex, or if you have a history of heart disease, angina (chest pain), blood circulation problems, or history of a heart attack or stroke.

Though it may not be caused by the Pill or Imitrex, a stroke is a serious medical condition, and prevention through awareness is never a bad idea.
